Composer & flautist
I am a composer and flautist based in Manchester. I specialise in co-creating new music with professional and leisure time musicians and young people in education, spanning projects in electronic and instrumental concert music, group improvisation, contemporary scoring practices, cross cultural collaboration and music for new technology/ instruments (including AI videogame controllers). I hold a PhD from the Royal Northern College of Music in collaborative composition (read my thesis here) and have recently worked with organisations including Music in the Round, Streetwise Opera, Contemporary Music for All and Burnley Youth Theatre.
I am Composition & Creativity Coordinator for Music in the Round, with whom I have developed their hugely successful WeCompose project for Year 9 and 10 students and their teachers. This project supports young people to compose for ensembles including Consone Quartet, Phaedra and Ligeti Quartet and is currently available in South Yorkshire, East Riding of Yorkshire, Middlesbrough, Milton Keynes, Barking & Dagenham and Portsmouth.
2025 projects include:
- Weaving Stories (soundscape for Bradford Cathedral as part of Bradford City of Culture 2025)
- Commemorating D-Day (co-composition with KS2 children, Burnley Youth Theatre)
- WeCompose (composition educator for Year 9 and 10 students across the country, Music in the Round)
- PLAY: Music for videogame controllers (including academic paper and public participation workshops)
- commission from Rarescale (performances autumn 2025)
- commission from Streetwise (co-composition with Streetwise Manchester, public performance 2026 at The Lowry)
